Billy Morris Denton - W5SB

September 22, 1936 – August 29, 2019

 

Billy Morris Denton (W5SB) left this earth August 29, 2019 at the age of 82. He joins his 30 year old grandson Ryan, who died earlier this year on February 7th. May their spirits meet on the path to heaven.

Born on a farm in Knox County, Texas, on September 22, 1936 to Morris and Arnel Denton. He was predeceased by his sister, Joyce. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marian, his two daughters Donna and Pam, his grandchildren Jennifer, Sarah, Sean and Cara and his great grandchildren Joel, JD and (expected in October) baby Jace. Graduated from O'Brien High School where he won the Texas State Championship in the High Jump and then went on to attend Hardin Simmons University on a basketball scholarship. Bill joined the US Army Security Agency from 1958 to 1962. He went back to school to get his Electronic Commercial License to work in television. He worked for Channel 13 (ABC), Channel 16, Channel 2 (CBS), Mobil Color, MCI Productions located in the Summit, where he televised the Houston Rockets games, concerts, etc. He televised the Miss Universe Pageant in Puerto Rico. He left his career in television to spend more time with his family and went to work as a Broadcast Engineer for Spring Branch ISD for 24 years until he retired in 2001.

 

During his life Bill received his pilot's license along with Marian; they loved to fly! Started Bill Denton Photography and did mostly weddings and sport association team photos. He was the president of the Northwest Amateur Radio Society, coordinator for Amateur Radio Emergency Team field Day, president of Mossy Oaks Civic Club, marshaled at Bear Creek Golf Club, coached girl's youth softball and soccer, played adult slow pitch softball, tennis, racquet ball, wallyball and most especially loved to play golf.
